An Inspirational Colleague

Day 7: "Who was or is your most inspirational colleague, and why?"

From Merriam Webster:
inspiration ~
1) something that makes someone want to do something or that gives someone an idea about what to do or create: a force or influence that inspires someone
2) a person, place, or experience, etc., that makes someone want to do or create something
3) a good idea

Inspiration in education can come from many people in many positions. Sometimes it's all about the right words spoken at the right moment, or a light bulb moment that sparks a new idea.

Inspiration can come from those you know well and can read your thoughts and needs.

Other times, inspiration can come from those you don't even know well but who can cheer you on from afar and support your new ideas without judgments of prior mistakes or failures.

It's special when you have both.

My most inspirational colleague is one that I've worked with for many years. We have been through changes in curriculum, staff, technology, and schedules. We've been challenged through some of our student situations. We've given each other support with the balance it takes to be both a teacher and a mother. We've enjoyed watching some of our favorite students grow up and do great things with their lives. We have also dealt with deaths and health difficulties of both students and our own relatives. We share a common vision and theme this year ~ change.

She's the type of person who genuinely cares, works hard, goes beyond just the minimum for her students, gives more than she takes, and doesn't dismiss my crazy ideas.

Throughout all the experiences we have been in, we have drawn strength from each other and most importantly our faith.

Some things are just easier when you know you can look to those you admire to gain new ideas, receive honest feedback, vent your frustrations, and be there for the little & big moments.
