A Classroom Picture

As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. But as I reflect on a few pictures of my classroom, I'll just summarize a few things I see and don't see in each picture.

In the picture above, I see:
     * a library of books available to the students
     * an area for each child to keep their chosen books in a book box
     * one of two shelving units that were built recently by my husband for our classroom Chromebooks

 In the picture above, I see:
     * student desks arranged in groups
     * student tables in a meeting area
     * extra open space due to 5 less students this year
What I don't see:
     * soft seating areas
     * evidence of student work on the wall (hopefully this will change as the year progresses)

In the picture above, I see:
     * a gathering space for read-alouds, class meetings, and group discussions
     * many books
     * new seats made from crates, with additional book storage
     * a random pencil on the floor :)


Reflecting on the current state of my classroom, I'm realizing that it will continue to be a work in progress. I have enjoyed changing a few things this year - from furniture arrangement, new decorations, and starting off the year with "group" seating. I also have bigger dreams of what my classroom could look like in the future, which will be fun to discover along the way.
